The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it deems “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the US against five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe such as the French president accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state online. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
