Historical Context
Nottingham Forest v Malmö and memories of 1979. The both teams have a special connection, also competing in Forest's most recent continental tour in the 1995-96 Uefa Cup, but it is the European Cup final 46 years ago that entwines these two together, with the record-breaking signing Trevor Francis scoring the winner of a rather dull championship game to clinch eternal glory for the Forest supporters.

It's also interesting to pause a little on Malmö, who became the first, and to date the last Scandinavian side to make the championship match under British coach Houghton.
This match is a far cry from that summit, closer perhaps to the previous continental meeting between Forest and Malmö in the mid-nineties. Forest are full of confidence after thrashing Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, while Malmö haven't kicked a competitive ball since 9 November following the conclusion of their domestic campaign. The general expectation is on the English side tonight.
